What is Aruba ESP?

ESP = Edge Service Platform is cloud based microservice architecture combining AIOps, Zero Trust Security and infrastructure (WLAN, LAN and SD-WAN) cloud-native single pane of glass management and monitoring.

Aruba ESP is comparable to Cisco Meraki and Juniper Mist which are also cloud-based microservice architectures providing similar LAN, WLAN and SD-WAN services.

Aruba ESP can be divided to service, policy and infrastructure layers.

Service Layer

Aruba Center is the single pane of glass for Aruba ESP, hence the “key” component for Aruba ESP providing the service layer.

Aruba Central is used to provision, provide visibility and control to access points, switches and sd-wan gateways. Guest wifi access, location based presence analytics, connectivity health/analytics optional services can be enabled in Aruba Central by service token.

Policy Layer

Policy layer in Aruba ESP is provided by Clearpass AAA server and access points and gateways have build-in policy enforcement firewall (PEF), which they can utilize.

Infrastructure Layer

Infrastructure layer is the actual network device layer, hence includes the access points, switches and gateways connected and managed by Aruba Central.

Licensing

Device management subscription is needed per managed device. Service subscription is needed per managed device AND per optional service.

For example an access point with optional guest wifi, location analytics and connectivity health are wanted for 3 years, following licenses are needed:

1 x 3 year device management subscription

3 x 3 year service subscription

Note! You can move free subscriptions between managed devices.
